The short story "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes is based on the transformation of a little boy into an honest man. While trying to snatch a fatty purse from a lone lady on the way at night, the little boy was afraid of being handed over to the police or seat to the jail for the mischief committed. The lady, however, showed her intension to wash his unclean and dirty face. By this time the boy had understood that the lady had no intention to put him into the jail.
